- Biography
Lil Wayne is the “Greatest Rapper Alive.” After signing to Birdman’s Cash Money Records at 11 years old, Weezy joined forces with labelmates Juvenile, Young Turk, and B.G. (formerly Lil’ Doogie) to create Hot Boys. The trio’s debut album Get It How U Live!! landed in 1996 but Hot Boys didn’t find true success until 1999’s Guerrilla Warfare and the smash hit, “Bling Bling.” At the same time, Wayne’s solo debut album Tha Block Is Hot dropped that same year and went on to be certified Platinum. Over the next decade, Wayne would redefine the idea of a rap superstar, dropping a slew of projects back-to-back, somewhat relentlessly proving himself time and time again to the music industry. Tha Carter, Wayne’s fourth album, debuted in 2004, starting quite possibly the best album series of all time. Tha Carter III, dropped in 2008, and became Wayne’s most successful album to date, selling over one million copies in its first week. The GRAMMY Award-winning MC has sold over 100 million records worldwide, including 15 million in the U.S. alone. While fans await his delayed 12th studio album, Wayne revisited his mixtape streak with recent releases like Dedication 6 and Dedication 6: Reloaded. The long-awaited Tha Carter V debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, his fourth US No.1 album.
