- Biography
Teyana Taylor’s rise to stardom has been a long and eventful ascent ever since she got her start on Pharrell Williams’s Star Trak Entertainment imprint at age 17. A dancer, actress, model, and singer, the Harlem native’s dynamic promise was evident very early on. She choreographed the music video for Beyoncé’s “Ring The Alarm” and appeared in JAY-Z‘s “Blue Magic” as a teenager, not long before releasing her debut mixtape From A Planet Called Harlem in 2009. During a visit to Kanye West‘s studio in 2010, Taylor lent her vocal talents to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. These were the first of what would be many contributions to the G.O.O.D. Music enterprise, including multiple tracks on the compilation album Cruel Summer. She became an official member of the G.O.O.D. Music family in 2012 after her departure from Star Trak/Interscope and the independent release of her second mixtape, The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor. Over the years leading up to the release of her debut studio album VII through G.O.O.D. in 2014, Taylor collaborated with Missy Elliott, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Meek Mill, Vince Staples, and more. Her working relationship with Kanye West, however, continues to yield her most defining work, including her show-stopping dance performance in West’s 2016 music video for “Fade.” Most recently, her 2018 album K.T.S.E., executive-produced by West, reinforces Taylor as a forceful musical talent that we all need more of.
