2 Chainz’s storied career is the definition of perfect timing. Before captivating listeners with his snappy punchlines and “TRU!” ad-libs, 2 Chainz (formerly Tity Boi) was a member of Playaz Circle, where he ruled the underground for years. His Trap-A-Velli and T.R.U. REALigionmixtapes caught fire… and the ear of Kanye West, who featured him on the Platinum G.O.O.D. Music single “Mercy.” His 2012 debut album Based on a T.R.U. Story hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned massive hits like “No Lie” and the 2x Platinum single “I’m Different.” The album was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 55th Grammy Awards and was eventually certified Platinum. Its 2013 sequel B.O.A.T.S. II: #METIME extended 2 Chainz’s dominance and included the Pharrell featured hit “Feds Watching.” After capturing mainstream success, he took it back to the streets with a series of mixtapes—Felt Like Cappin, Daniel Son; Necklace Don, and Hibachi for Lunch. Using this momentum, 2 Chainz triumphantly returned to the charts with the critically acclaimed Pretty Girls Like Trap Music in 2017—cementing his status as hip-hop royalty. He released his fourth EP, The Play Don’t Care Who Makes It, in 2018.
